Our world is changing rapidly. The digital revolution’s role in this has been significant, drastically altering the way people communicate, work and do business, as well as the way in which perspectives are shaped. Due to its immediacy, speed and accessibility, the internet has become an indispensable tool for every modern state.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs believes in, and is investing in, new technologies. It is our firm position that we must capitalise on the opportunities opened up to us by the digital revolution. In the context of the new international state of affairs, Public Diplomacy helps to effectively promote a country’s positions so that they may be better understood and, ultimately, promote peace and international cooperation.
The Foreign Ministry’s new website has been designed to provide first-hand information – in real time – regarding Greece’s positions. It will also provide practical information to cover citizens’ increasing needs pertaining to day-to-day issues within the Foreign Ministry’s competences. Our new site will also serve as a platform for our economic diplomacy, which is taking on an ever-greater strategic role in Greek foreign policy.
By its very nature, a website evolves constantly – it cannot be static. I would like to take this opportunity to stress that this effort on the part of the Foreign Ministry will be ongoing so that we can constantly enhance and enrich our site with useful and interesting insights into the Foreign Ministry’s activities in an ever-changing world of opportunities and challenges.
