1. A valid travel document allowing entry into the single Schengen area with a period of validity that exceeds by at least three months the expiry date of the visa requested (article 13, para. 2 of the Implementing Convention).
2. Supporting documents regarding the purpose of the journey (a letter of invitation, participation in an organised trip).
3. Supporting documents regarding means of transport and return (airline ticket, currency for petrol or car insurance in case of a road trip).
4. Supporting documents regarding means of subsistence (cash, travellers cheques, bank statements, etc.)
5. Supporting documents regarding accommodation in the Schengen area (hotel reservations, documents proving the existence of a lease or a property title, accommodation at a person’s home or in an institution, etc.).
6. Individual or group travel insurance to cover any expenses which might arise in connection with repatriation for medical reasons, urgent medical attention and/or emergency hospital treatment during their stay.
7. Supporting documents providing proof of place of permanent residence and of social, family or other ties with the country of permanent residence.
8. Supporting documents proving the social and professional status of the applicant (certificates of employment, study, etc.).
9. Other supporting documents that might be required depending on the case (old expired travel document, seaman’s passport, etc.).
10. Parental authorization in the case of minors.
It should be noted that this list is indicative and, as mentioned above, depending on the local situation and any relevant decision of the local consular cooperation the presentation of more and/or other documents may be required. Finally, the necessary documents vary depending on the type of visa requested (air transit, transit or short-stay visas).
