The Greek Chairmanship of the Human Security Network, which will be concluded with the 10th HSN Ministerial Meeting, on 30 May 2008, focuses on the impact of climate change on the human security of vulnerable population groups (children, women and persons fleeing their homes due to climate change).
The goals of the Greek Chairmanship include:
1. Collecting and subsequently presenting – in association with the Hellenic Foundation for European and Foreign Policy – existing studies regarding the impact of climate change on the human security of vulnerable groups in the developing world.
2. Drawing up three policy papers, one for each vulnerable group. These texts are to be drawn up in cooperation with internationally recognised Greek (Hellenic Foundation for European and Foreign Policy) and foreign research centres, as well as in association with relevant international agencies. In particular, the policy paper on children is being drawn up in cooperation with UNICEF; the paper on women, in cooperation with the Women’s Environment and Development Organization (WEDO); and the policy paper on persons fleeing their homes, in cooperation with the United Nations University.
3. A comprehensive policy paper on development cooperation and the impact of climate change on human security. This text is being is being elaborated in association with the International Institute for Environment and Development, whose Head of Research is the internationally renowned expert on climage change, Dr. Saleem Huq.
